SLIM launch fiber is housed inside a lightweight, ruggedized IP66 rated carry case. Its compact, robust, and portable design is ideal for working in challenging job sites or aerial fiber routes.
The sturdy lid protects the pigtails and connectors during transit or shipment minimizing any damage. Fixed fiber lengths of 150m, 500m, or 1000m are offered standard with custom lengths available on request. Fibers can be fitted with the most common industry optical connectors.
SLIM Launch Fiber
Launch and receive fibers are used with OTDRs to evaluate the total link loss of a fiber including the reflectance of the first and last connectors. An identical pair of launch and receive fibers is usually required to perform bi-directional OTDR measurements.
Launch and receive fibers help overcome the “dead zone” effects of an OTDR. The launch cable should be longer than the OTDR's dead zone which is a function of the longest pulse width being used. Three fixed lengths are offered:
- 150m (492 ft) - premise network (LAN) including wireless fronthaul/midhaul test applications
- 500m (1640 ft) - medium/long haul metro test applications including FTTH/P drop and feeder cables
- 1000m (3281 ft) - ultra-long-haul test applications
Launch fibers are offered in a variety of connector types (SC, LC, FC and MU) and endface polishing (UPC or APC).
