The patented FUTURA launch lead is developed and manufactured entirely by Fibernet in Italy. It's unique, compact design is perfect for fiber installers moving between different challenging job sites.
Metal armored pigtails are not susceptible to macrobending or damage during operation or shipment. Up to 1000m of fiber is contained within the robust enclosure preserving its integrity and longevity. The test leads including optical connectors with dust caps can be rolled up inside the snap-open lid when not in use.
FUTURA Launch Fiber
Launch and receive fibers are used with OTDRs to evaluate the total link loss of a fiber including the reflectance of the first and last connectors. An identical pair of launch and receive fibers is usually required to perform bi-directional OTDR measurements.
Launch and receive fibers help overcome the “dead zone” effects of an OTDR. The launch cable should be longer than the OTDR's dead zone which is a function of the longest pulse width being used. Three fixed lengths are offered:
- 150m (492 ft) - premise network (LAN) including wireless fronthaul/midhaul test applications
- 500m (1640 ft) - medium/long haul metro test applications including FTTH/P drop and feeder cables
- 1000m (3281 ft) - ultra-long-haul test applications
Launch fibers are offered in a variety of connector types (SC, LC, FC and MU) and endface polishing (UPC or APC).
